GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin University men's tennis won its season opener 8-1 against Aquinas on Saturday at the Huizenga Tennis and Track Center.
Calvin (1-0) swept the three doubles matches to start the match to take the early 3-0 lead. The number-one team of
Corwin Kim (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson) and
Maurquis Willingham (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) won 8-5 at the top of the line-up. The number-two team of
Felipe Sartori (Cotia, Brazil/Colegio Giusto Zonzini) and
Rodrigo Alipio (Santos, Brazil/COC Universitario) swept their match 8-0, while the number-three team of
Emmanuel Henao (Medellin, Columbia/Escuela Normal Superior "La Merced") and
Noah Yi (Fullerton, Calif./Valencia) won 8-1.
The Knights closed the match strong by taking five of the six singles matches in straight sets.
Willingham (6-4, 6-2), Alipio (6-1, 6-2), Kim (6-2, 6-3),
Harrison Sindelar (Westfield, Ind./Westfield) (6-0, 6-1) and
Ryan Broek (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian) (6-0, 6-0) each won their matches.
The lone point for Aquinas (0-4) came in number one singles, which it won 6-2, 6-0.

NEXT UP: Calvin men's tennis returns to action next week when it plays a pair of matches in Wisconsin. The Knights will play at Wisconsin Lutheran on Thursday, February 15, at 12:30 (CST), followed by a match at MSOE on Friday, February 16, at 1:00 PM (CST).
