GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Calvin improved to 3-2 in dual meet action with a dominating 187-85 victory over Wheaton College Saturday afternoon inside the Venema Aquatic Center.
Senior
David Bajwa (Bethesda, Md./The Heights School) was a double-winner, taking the gold medal in the 100 backstroke (49.96) and 200 breaststroke (2:10.36).
Calvin opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay as the team of Bajwa, junior
Timothy Hays (Arlington Heights, Il./Prospect HS), senior
Logan Campbell (Yorkville, Il./Yorkville HS) and junior
Charles Platt (Downers Grove, Il./Downers Grove North HS) won in a time of 1:29.73.
Platt led a 1-2-3 Calvin finish in the 50 freestyle, winning the race in a time of 20.80 with senior
Josh Seidelman (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) second (21.09) and senior
Corey Campbell (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) third (21.13).
Seidelman won the 100 freestyle (46.77), Platt won the 500 freestyle (4:56.52) and Hays the 100 butterfly (49.69).
Sophomore
Ryan Halberg (Novi, Mich./Northville HS) claimed a victory in the 200 backstroke (1:57.38) and was second in the 1000 freestyle (10:08.16). Junior
Jacob Ziegler (Toledo, Oh./St. John's Jesuit HS) was a winner in the 200 butterfly (1:58.46) with freshman
Grant Ruster (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven HS) winning the 100 breaststroke (57.07) and senior
Vlad Molin (Rolling Meadows, Il./Rolling Meadows HS) winning the 200 freestyle (1:46.03).
Senior
Wil Goodpaster (Hamilton, Mich./Hamilton HS) won the one-meter diving competition (249.52).
COACHES COMMENT: "Probably closed out our best fall competition schedule, maybe ever," said Calvin head swim coach
Dan Gelderloos. "We continue to set personal best and swim very motivated. We are looking forward to our Winter Invitational in December."
