Calvin Women's Soccer Prepares to Host NCAA III Regional Tournament

NCAA III WOMEN'S SOCCER TOURNAMENT BRACKET

The Calvin women's soccer team is preparing to host an NCAA III Regional Tournament this weekend at Calvin Soccer Stadium. Calvin will host Greenville University in a first round game Friday at 2 p.m. (ET) with Lawrence facing the University of Chicago in the first round game to follow at 4:30 p.m. (ET). Friday's winners will meet in the regional final on Saturday at 5 p.m. (ET).

TICKET INFORMATION:

Ticket prices are: $10 for General Admission, $6 for senior citizens, $6 for students & $5 for children ages 3-12.  These are all single session tickets.

Calvin will enter the game ranked 16th in the Division III Top 25 poll conducted by the United Soccer Coaches Association. Chicago earned an at-large bid to the NCAA III Tournament. The Maroons are 10-6-3 overall and have met eight nationally-ranked opponents this fall. Chicago received an at-large bid to the NCAA III Tournament. Lawrence heads into the tournament with an overall record of 15-4-2. The Vikings won the Midwest Conference Tournament title with a 2-1 overtime win over Lake Forest this past weekend to gain an automatic bid to the NCAA III Tournament

Calvin will carry an overall record of 14-2-2 into the match while Greenville is currently 11-7-2. Calvin captured its fifth consecutive MIAA regular season title with an 8-0-0 league record and continued on to win its fourth MIAA Tournament title in the last five years to gain an automatic bid to the NCAA III Tournament. Greenville captured SLIAC regular season and SLIAC Tournament tiles this fall. The Panthers finished 7-0-1 to claim the SLIAC regular season title and then defeated Spalding and Webster by 2-1 scores to claim the SLIAC Tournament crown.

Friday's contest will feature the first-ever meeting between Calvin and Greenville in women's soccer.

Calvin is under the direction of head coach Emily Ottenhoff who is in her seventh season as head coach. She has a carer won-loss record of 85-24-13 (.732) that includes MIAA regular season titles in 2021 (spring and fall), 2022, 2023 and 2024. She has led Calvin to four MIAA Tournament titles (2021 spring, 2022, 2023 & 2024) and NCAA III Tournament trips in 2021 (fall), 2022, 2023 and 2024 with the Knights advancing to the Round of 16 of the NCAA III Tournament in 2023. Ottenhoff is a 2010 Calvin graduate. She was an All-American midfielder for the Knights in 2009 and was part of national quarterfinalist teams in 2006 and 2009. She was also a four-year member of the Calvin women's basketball program including a 2007 team that reached the national quarterfinals.

Calvin is making its 15th NCAA III Tournament appearance, including its fourth straight under head coach Emily Ottenhoff. She recently was named MIAA Women's Soccer Coach of the Year for the second straight fall. The Knights are 16-10-5 all-time in the NCAA III Tournament, reaching the national quarterfinals in 2006, 2009 and 2015. Last season, the Knights reached the Sweet 16.

Calvin features a balanced scoring attack with 10 different Knights scoring two goals or more this fall. Senior Sophie Mueller leads the Knights in scoring with 10 goals, seven assists and 27 points. Senior Elizabeth Williams has six goals, six assists and 18 points while junior Mia Judd has eight goals, one assist and 17 points. Freshman Olivia Rawls has seven goals, two assists and 16 points. Junior Elie Farrell has three goals, a team-high nine assists and 15 points. Senior Kalex Dodge is the primary goalkeeper. She has 63 saves and a 0.41 goals-against-average on the year.

Calvin recently landed eight individuals on the All-MIAA teams. Mia Judd (Grand Ledge, Mich./Lansing Christian), Lucy Iverson (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North), Sophie Mueller (North Muskegon, Mich./North Muskegon), Rory Pruis (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian), and Liz Williams (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) were each named to the All-MIAA First Team, while Kalex Dodge (Leslie, Mich./Leslie), Elie Farrell (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South), and Mikaela Waroway (Ann Arbor, Mich./Father Gabriel Richard) were named to the All-MIAA Second Team. Judd was named the 2024 MIAA Most Valuable Player.

Greenville is under the direction of head coach Jeff Wardlaw. He has been at the helm of the Greenville women's soccer program since 2012. Last week he was named the SLIAC Women's Soccer Coach of the Year. Greenville will be making its second ever NCAA Tournament appearance after winning the SLIAC automatic qualifier spot by virtue of its 2-1 win over Webster University in the SLIAC Women's Soccer Championship game last weekend. The Panthers are 11-7-2 overall this season and lost to Wisconsin-La Crosse 3-0 in 2022 in their only other national tournament trip. 

Ashlie Johnston Cabral, a junior forward at Greenville University, was voted as the top offensive player in the league after recording 9 goals and 4 assists during conference play. She led the league with 22 points in eight games with three multi-goal games and points in all but two games. She is the first Panther since Jackie Sievert in 2011 and only the third in program history to win the award. Greenville placed five individuals on the All-SLIAC First Team with Johnston Cabral, midfielder Jaelyn Dodson, midfielder Vanessa Ramirez, midfielder Angie Stedman. defender Sam De La Cruz and defender Alexis Romeo all earning All-SLIAC First Team honors.

Johnston Cabral leads Greenville in scoring with 11 goals, four assists and 26 points. Allyson Schultz (five goals, six assists), Angie Russo (seven goals, two assists) and Ramirez (4 goals, eight assists) all have 16 points. Addison Miller has been the primary goalkeeper with 51 saves and a goals-against-average of 1.51.
