Box Score ADRIAN, Mich. - Today the sixteenth ranked Calvin women's soccer team traveled to Adrian to take on the Bulldogs where a powerful offensive performance allowed the Knights to claim the MIAA regular season championship.
Â
The Knights came out hot as just seven minutes into the match graduate student
Sophie Mueller (North Muskegon, Mich./North Muskegon) carried the ball up the left side of the field. As she got closer to the end line she sent a cross into the six-yard box where sophomore
Mikaela Waroway (Ann Arbor, Mich./Father Gabriel Richard) tapped it past the charging Bulldogs goalkeeper to give Calvin the lead.
Â
Just ten minutes later, sophomore
Katherine Bergman (Farmington Hills, Mich./Farmington) found the ball at her feet on the right flank. With a Bulldog defender closing in she sent a high, arcing cross towards the back post to Mueller who redirected the ball into the bottom corner of the goal to extend the Calvin lead.
Â
In the second half, the Knights kept things rolling as Waroway claimed possession in enemy territory. She did a quick survey of the field before finding junior
Elie Farrell (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South) streaking down the right wing. Farrell beat out one Bulldog defender and then found Mueller who scored her second goal of the evening to make the score 3-0.
Â
Less than a minute later, graduate student
Liz Williams (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) got in on the scoring action when she buried a rocket from outside the eighteen-yard box nicely into the top corner of the net.
Â
For the rest of the match, the Calvin defense continued its stellar performance as it held the Bulldogs chances to a minimum and finished the game with their eleventh clean sheet of the season. The Knights outset Adrian 11-8 while Calvin goalkeeper
Kalex Dodge (Leslie, Mich./Leslie) recorded two saves.Â
