Calvin Women's Swim and Dive Records Two Wins in Triangular Meet

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Calvin women's swimming and diving team welcomed Kalamazoo and Albion for a triangular meet inside Venema Aquatic Center. 
 
The Knights picked up the sweep as they beat the Brits 189-52 and Kalamazoo 188-52.
 
Calvin started things out hot as graduate student Maggie Farrell (Portage, Mich./Portage Central), junior Elyse Radawski (Jension, Mich./Jenison), freshman Gracie Ganger (Tipp City, Oh./Tippecanoe), and junior Meghan Bengelink (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) finished first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:49.19.
 
The Knights continued as Streelman (11:13.49), Madi McNearney (Riverside, Mo./Park Hill South) (11:21.10), and Piper Sadowski (East Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) (11:50.74) took the top three spots in the 1000 freestyle. Farrell continued to have a strong performance as she took the top spot in the 200 IM with a time of 2:07.76 while freshman Zoe Poe (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette Twp.) took the top spot in both the 200 freestyle (1:57.06) and the 500 freestyle (5:08.23).
 
In the 100 butterfly Granger was the first finisher with a time of 59.96 and Bengelink (54.98) and freshman Ella Andrews (Carmel, Ind./Heritage Christian) (56.20) finished one and two in the 100 freestyle.
 
Sophomore Emma Merkel (Wyoming, Mich./Grandville) claimed the top spot in the 100 backstroke as she finished at 57.65 while freshman Eloise Harrison (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton) took first in the 100 breaststroke at 1:09.42.
 
On the diving board, senior Kiah Heminghouse (Midland, Mich./Midland) recorded the top score of 210.95 on the three meter board.
 
Calvin wrapped up their night with another first place finish as Poe, Maria Heeres (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian), Granger, and Merkel finished the 400 freestyle relay at 3:39.66.
 
COACHES COMMENTS: "I was super impressed with our performance tonight, it showed off our culture," said head coach Dan Gelderloos. "The team really enjoys watching each other swim fast and our athletes are all pushing each other up. We are ahead of past teams in building relationships and it is showing in our results."
 
UP NEXT: The Knights will be back in action on Friday, November 1st when they host a Quad Meet at Venema Aquatic Center at 6PM.
