Calvin went 2-1 on a split-squad afternoon, falling at nationally-ranked Chicago but defeating Kalamazoo and Olivet in Grand Rapids. Calvin is now 7-5 in dual meet competition this season.

CHICAGO, Il. – A matchup of top-10 teams provided several big times and performances.
Junior
David Bajwa (Bethesda, Md./The Heights School) was a double-winner, taking home wins in the 200 backstroke (1:52.84) and 100 backstroke (50.93) with sophomore
Timothy Hays (Arlington Heights, Il./Prospect HS) second (51.23). Hays was also second in the 200 breaststroke (2:07.97).
Freshman
Ryan Halberg (Novi, Mich./Northville HS) had a big day in the distance freestyle events, winning the 1,000 freestyle in a season-best time of 9:49.39 while placing second in the 500 freestyle in a time of 4:45.47.
Senior
Eric Chimes (Broadview Heights, Oh./Brecksville-Broadview HS) won the 400 IM (4:10.27) and placed second in the 200 butterfly (1:53.41).
In the 50 freestyle, senior
Corey Campbell (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) tied for first place in 21.46. Calvin went 2-3 in the 100 freestyle with senior
Vlad Molin (Rolling Meadows, Il./Rolling Meadows HS) second (47.84) and Campbell third (48.56).
Calvin went 2-3 in the one and three-meter diving competitions. On the three-meter board, junior
Jason Perez (Plainwell, Mich./Plainwell HS) was second (232.43) and junior
Will Goodpaster (Hamilton, Mich./Hamilton HS) third (210.15). On the one-meter diving board, Goodpaster was second (237.53) and Perez third (209.33).
Freshman
Mohamed Abujiba (Cairo, Egypt Summits International School) took third in the 100 breaststroke (58.83).
Calvin took second place in both relays. Its 200 medley relay team of sophomore
Charles Platt (Downers Grove, Il./Downers Grove North), Hays, Molin and senior
Forrest Peterson (Middleton, Wisc./Middleton HS) took second in a time of 1:32.65. Calvin's 400 freestyle relay team of Bajwa, Platt, Molin and Peterson took second in a time of 3:05.55.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Calvin's B' squad was up to the challenge in defeating visiting Olivet and Kalamazoo Saturday afternoon inside the Venema Aquatic Center.
Sophomore
Addison Van Soelen (Lawrenceville, Ga./Providence Christian Academy) had a big day, winning the 200 freestyle (1:46.90) while anchoring Calvin's 400 medley relay team to a win in a time of 3:34.36. Freshman
Ted Turnage (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids HS) led off the relay followed by freshman
Logan Yakubowski (Hazleton, Pa./Hazelton Area HS) and junior
Jazz Widney (Wellsville, NY/Jenks HS).
Widney was a winner in the 50 freestyle (21.99) and 100 freestyle (47.77). He led a 1-2-3 Calvin finish in the 100 freestyle with Van Soelen taking second (48.38) and freshman
Will Bales (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Everett HS) third (49.48).
Yakubowski won the 200 breaststroke (2:16.29). Sophomore
Jacob Ziegler (Toledo, Oh./St. John's Jesuit) was a double-winner, taking home the gold medal in the 400 IM (4:18.15) and 200 backstroke (1:59.59).
COACHES COMMENT: "We were able to split up our teams today and that allowed swimmers to step into some bigger roles," said Calvin head swim coach
Dan Gelderloos. "We were able to give everyone up and down the roster some great swims and challenges. I am was very happy to hear the enthusiasm that the home crew swam with, and we were able to compete very well with a very good Chicago program while working on our ability to swim on the road which is important for us down the stretch run of the season."
NEXT UP: Calvin will host Division II Wayne State next Saturday at 1 p.m. in a non-conference dual meet at the Venema Aquatic Center.
