The 211th edition of the Calvin-Hope men's basketball rivalry is set to tip off Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. inside Van Noord Arena.Hope leads the all-time series 109-101. Over 210 games, Hope has outscored Calvin by 51 points (14,254-14,203) which works out to a difference of just 0.24 points per game.
At least a share of first place in the MIAA standings will be on the line Wednesday night as Calvin, Hope and Trine are all tied for first place in the MIAA standings with 4-0 conference records.
Calvin enters the game with an overall record of 14-1 and a five-game win streak. The Knights are currently ranked fourth nationally by D3hoops.com. Hope comes in at 12-3 overall with a six-game win streak.
As a team, Calvin averages 75.2 points a game on offense and 64.0 points a game on defense. Hope averages 78.5 points a game on offense and 65.6 points a game on defense.
Calvin is led in scoring and rebounding by sophomore center Jalen Overway who averages 19.7 points and 9.5 rebounds a game while senior guard Uchenna Egekeze averages 12.3 points and 4.5 rebounds per contest. Hope has four players averaging double-digits in scoring led by senior forward Tanner Wiegerink who pumps in 13.8 points a game to go with 6.9 boards per contest. Junior center Gabe Quillan averages 12.3 points and team-best 9.9 rebounds a game.
