Calvin Men's Soccer Clipped by Carthage

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Calvin fell to the visiting Firebirds of Carthage College 4-2 Wednesday afternoon at Zuidema Field.

Calvin (6-2-0) opened the scoring in the fifth minute on a penalty kick goal by senior Oliver Akintade (Lake Forest, Il./Lake Forest HS) after Calvin sophomore Jacob Ryu (Naperville, Il./Naperville North HS) was tripped up in the box to draw the spot kick.

Carthage found the equalizer in the 20th minute and then grabbed the momentum with a pair of goals inside the final five minutes of the first half to build a 3-1 lead at the break.

Calvin got right back in the game with a goal in the 51st minute as senior Aguma Muhumuza (Baton Rouge, La./The Dunham School) headed in a serve in the box from junior Alex White (Lake Bluff, Il./Lake Forest Academy).

The Knights pressed for the equalizer but Carthage (5-2-0) scored a fourth goal against the run of play to close out the scoring.

Carthage finished with a 16-9 shots at goal advantage with the Knights outshooting Carthage 7-4 in the second half.

Calvin returns to action on Saturday when it hosts John Carroll University at 6 p.m. at Zuidema Field.
