ALBION, Mich. – The Calvin women's lacrosse team clinched a spot in the upcoming four-team MIAA Tournament with a 16-12 victory at Albion Tuesday night.
The Knights are now 8-6 overall and more importantly 4-2 in conference play which clinches a spot in the conference tournament which begins with semifinal play next Wednesday.
In its win over Albion, Calvin used a dominant third quarter to take control of the game as the Knights outscored the Britons 5-0 in the quarter to build a 15-8 lead.
Calvin scored the first three goals of the game and led 4-3 after one quarter of play and 10-7 at halftime.
Senior
Megan Gilbert (Lansing, Mich./Holt HS) scored all four of her goals in the first half while senior
Mekaelah McClymont (Camp Hill, Pa./) scored three in the second quarter to pace Calvin.
McClymont scored twice more in the third quarter with freshmen
Audrey Booher (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian HS) and
Anneliese Hanson (Naperville, Il./Naperville North HS) and sophomore
Meghan Chang (Clarksburg, Md./Clarksburg HS) scoring single goals in the third.
McClymont scored her team-leading sixth goal of the game seconds into the fourth quarter to give the Knights a 16-8 lead. Albion fought back with the final four goals of the contest to complete the scoring.
McClymont finished the game with a career-high six goals to go with one assist and five draw controls.
Gilbert had another monster game with four goals, one assist, two ground balls and 18 draw controls. Chang had two ground balls and one draw control. Freshman
Morgan Bethard (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt HS) had a pair of goals while Hanson had one.
The Calvin defense created 11 Albion turnovers led by senior
Jessica Baker (Wheaton, Il./Wheaton North HS) who caused three opponent turnovers and came up with three ground balls.
Senior
Eva Doorlag (Ypsilanti, Mich./Saline HS) also caused three opponent turnovers and came up with two ground balls.
Senior
Jessica Camp (O'Fallon, Il./O'Fallon Township HS) had seven saves and two ground balls in goal.
As a team, Calvin was credited with 24 draw controls to the eight of Albion. Calvin also outshot Albion 35-26.

NEXT UP: Calvin will conclude its regular season schedule on Friday when it travels to Adrian for a 4 p.m. contest at Docking Stadium.
