GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Calvin University men's tennis team finished the conference season with a 7-2 defeat to first-place Kalamazoo College on Saturday.
The match started outdoors for doubles, but was moved indoors due to inclement weather.Â
Kalamazoo (9-7, 6-0 MIAA) took the numbers one (8-4) and two (8-2) doubles matches, but the number-three team of
Isaac Jeong (Novi, Mich./Novi) and
Jared Berghorst (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville) won their match in a tiebreaker 8-7 (7-1) to cut the Calvin (11-5, 4-2 MIAA) deficit to 2-1 heading into singles,
In singles,
Tanner Warners (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) won his number-six match in straight sets 6-1, 6-0, but that would be the lone point the Knights could add.
Number-one singles player
Corwin Kim (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson) took his match to three sets, but fell in a tiebreaker by a final of 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-1).Â
Ryan Broek (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian) also took his number-four singles match to three sets in a 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 defeat.
Calvin finished the conference season with a 4-2 league record to take third place in the final standings.
