Women's Lacrosse Chops Down Lake Forest 20-16

LAKE FOREST, Il. – The Calvin women's lacrosse team improved to 2-2 on the year with a 20-16 win at Lake Forest College Friday afternoon.

Freshman Audrey Booher (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian HS) had a breakout game with six goals on eight shots while senior Megan Gilbert (Lansing, Mich./Holt HS) had four goals, an assist, five ground balls and a whopping 15 draw controls while also causing four turnovers.

Sophomore Meghan Chang (Clarksburg, Md./Clarksburg HS) also had three goals and two assists while collecting two ground balls.

Junior Mekealah McClymont (Camp Hill, Pa./Covenant Christian Academy) had three goals, an assist and six draw controls. Senior Lainey Aldridge (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North HS) tallied three goals to go with one ground ball and a caused turnover. Freshman Jacey Smith (Watertown, Wisc./Watertown HS) also provided an important insurance goal.

Calvin fell behind early 2-0 but came back to take the lead and eventually forge a 5-5 tie after one quarter of play.

The Knights gained separation in the second quarter, outscoring the host Forresters  6-2 to build an 11-7 halftime lead.

Calvin later took a 17-12 lead after three quarters of play with McClymont scoring a pair of goals in the surge.

Lake Forest later crept to within two at 17-15 but the Knights responded with three unanswered goals led by a free position shot by Smith to give Calvin an 18-15 advantage. Goals from Gilbert and junior Aldridge then gave the Knights a five-goal cushion at 20-15.

Senior goalie Jessica Camp (O'Fallon, Il./O'Fallon Township HS) came up with seven saves in goal to gain the victory.

COACHES COMMENT: "Happy to come away with a win today, but I don't think it was our best effort, and that's on me. I didn't prepare us well enough for Lake Forest, and we eded up on our heels early on," said Calvin head women's lacrosse coach Blake Boehm. "By the second quarter, we settled in and recommitted to our principles, but it never seemed as though we were playing with the rhythm we're used to. We are looking forard to tomorrow's match with Carthage."

NEXT UP: Calvin will travel to Carthage College on Saturday for a game slated to start at 2 p.m. (EST) with Carthage bringing a 3-1 record into Saturday's matchup.
