KENOSHA, Wisc. – The Calvin women's lacrosse team fell at Carthage 12-9 on Saturday as its two-game win streak came to an end.
Playing in its second game in less than 24 hours, Calvin led 9-7 at halftime but was outscored 5-0 in the second half.
Calvin (2-3 overall) still led 9-8 heading into the final quarter of play but the host Firebirds (4-1) took the lead with 8:37 remaining and played tight defense on the Knights down the stretch, forcing a handful of key turnovers to maintain possession.
Carthage added insurance goals in the final 5:09 of regulation to seal the win.
Calvin finished the first half on a 3-0 run to take a two-goal halftime lead.
Senior
Megan Gilbert (Lansing, Mich./Holt HS) scored all five of her goals in the first half. Gilbert scored two of her goals inside of Calvin's 3-0 run with freshman
Audrey Booher (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian HS) closing out the half with a goal just before the first half horn to put the Knights up 9-7.
Gilbert finished the game with five goals, boosting her career total to 201 goals, third on the Calvin career list. She is now one of three Calvin players along with Amanda Davio and Emily Cefaratti to score more than 200 goals in a career.

Sophomore
Meghan Chang (Clarksburg, Md./Clarksburg HS) had three assists.
Gilbert and Chang picked up seven ground balls apiece with Gilbert chalking up six draw controls.
Freshman
Morgan Bethard (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt HS) had five ground balls and caused three opponent turnovers.
Senior
Jessica Camp (O'Fallon, Il./O'Fallon Township HS) had four saves for the Knights in defeat.

Blake Boehm. "We played a strong first half and set the pace of the game, but we were less diligent in the second and created a lot of additional opportunities for Carthage. Hats off to our defense for following the game plan and keeping the game close. We know what we need to work on moving forward."
