BROOKHAVEN, Ga. – The Calvin women's lacrosse team dropped a 19-10 decision to the host Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe University Wednesday night.
Oglethorpe (5-2) outscored Calvin 8-2 in the opening quarter of play to take the momentum. The Knights traded goals with the Stormy Petrels in the second quarter as each team came up with four goals.
Oglethorpe then outscored the Knights 5-2 in the third, building a 17-6 lead at one juncture before goals from
Mekaelah McClymont (Camp Hill, Pa./Covenant Christian Academy) and
Megan Gilbert (Lansing, Mich./Holt HS) sliced the deficit down to 17-8.
Oglethorpe later took a 19-8 lead before sophomore
Meghan Chang (Clarksburg, Md./Clarksburg HS) answered with back-to-back goals in the fourth to complete the scoring.
Gilbert and McClymont led Calvin in scoring with three goals apiece. Chang had a goal and an assist. Freshman
Audrey Booher (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian HS) had a pair of goals. Freshman
Jacey Smith (Watertown, Wisc./Watertown HS) had one assist. Gilbert won nine draw controls.
Senior goalie
Jessica Camp (O'Fallon, Il./O'Fallon Township HS) had 14 saves and three ground balls for the Knights in between the pipes.
NEXT UP: Calvin will travel to Piedmont College on Friday for a 4 p.m. match.
