Calvin/Hope Men's Basketball Rivalry To Go Green

All fans and supporters attending Wednesday's Hope at Calvin men's basketball game are asked to Go Green for an evening.

School officials are asking fans in attendance to put aside their school colors and instead wear green attire to remember and honor the members of the Michigan State University community that were affected by Monday's tragic on-campus shooting.

"In showing that we stand with our friends and colleagues at Michigan State University, Hope president Matthew Scogin and I are asking our fans to forego wearing their traditional school colors and to wear green to tomorrow night's Rivalry matchup between our schools," said Boer. "These moments remind us that while rivals on the court, we are partners in this journey called life. As a community, we mourn with those who mourn and especially with those families who lost a son or daughter Monday night. There is nothing that prepares a family, friends, or a university for something as horrific as this."

Boer also noted the fact that Calvin has many connections to Michigan State. "I am acutely aware that we have students, faculty, and staff in our community here at Calvin for whom this news hits close to home," said Boer. "Many of us have close friends and colleagues, even family who are part of the MSU community. Both of my parents are alums of MSU. One thing that remains certain in these times is the importance of relationships and the support we need in our life together."

Both Calvin and Hope men's basketball teams will be wearing green warm-up shirts prior to tomorrow's games.

Wednesday's Hope at Calvin game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. with a men's junior varsity game set for 5 p.m. Both games are slated to be played at Calvin's Van Noord Arena.
