For the third time since 2018, the Calvin men's soccer team has been named the United Soccer Coaches Division III Region (VIII) Staff of the Year.

Stephan Hooker were honored with the award earlier this afternoon. Calvin's staff also received the award in 2018 and 2019.
The Calvin men's soccer coaching staff led the Knights to an overall record of 18-2-2 that included an MIAA regular season title (7-0-0), and MIAA Tournament crown and an appearance in the Round of 16 of the NCAA III Tournament after the Knights claimed a first round tournament win over Greenville and a second round win over Gustavus Adolphus.
Souders recently completed his 12
th year as head coach of the Calvin men's soccer program. He has led the Knights to 12 MIAA regular season titles and 10 trips to the NCAA III Tournament. He was named MIAA Men's Soccer Coach of the Year last month.
Bryant has been with Souders for eight years as an assistant coach. He is a graduate of the University of Mobile where he was an NAIA Honorable Mention All-American. Hinds and Hooker were Division III All-American soccer players under Souders and helped the Knights advance to the national championship final in 2016. Hinds recently concluded his third year as an assistant coach with the Calvin men's soccer program while Hooker recently completed his sixth year as an assistant coach with the Knights.
Combined, the Calvin soccer staff led the Knights to a No. 10 national rankings. Five of their players were recently named 2023 United Soccer Coaches All-Region selections with three (
Daniel Wunder,
Oliver Akintade and
Chris Schau) were named 2023 United Soccer Coaches All-Americans.
"This is such a testament to the incredible staff I'm able to work with," said Souders. "What Matt, Brady and Stephan do is beyond incredible. These guys love our athletes and love Calvin soccer. I'm so thankful both to and for them. We are immensely fortunate to have them at Calvin."
