OSHKOSH, Wis. – The 12th-ranked Calvin University women's volleyball team opens its 2023 NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament with a first-round match against 18th-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College on Thursday (November 16) at 4:30 PM at UW-Oshkosh.
The Teams: Calvin and Gustavus Adolphus. The Knights enter the tournament with a 22-7 record, while the Gusties are 25-6. Calvin enters the tournament after getting an at-large bid, while GAC won the MIAC regular season and tournament championships to secure the automatic bid from its conference.
The Series – Thursday's match marks the first ever meeting between the two programs in women's volleyball.
The Coaches: Calvin is coached by Dr. Amber Warners in her 22nd season. Warners has led the Knights to three national championships (2010, 2013 and 2016) with a career record of 658-106. The Gusties are coached by Rachelle Sherden in her 14th season. Sherden has led the Gusties to eight straight NCAA Tournament berths during her tenure with GAC.
The Players: Four players across the two teams were recognized as First Team All-Region honorees by the AVCA on Wednesday. Aerin Baker (Saugatuck, Mich./Saugatuck) and Emma Ekblaw (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) won the honor for Calvin in Region 7, while GAC's Lauren Klaith and Kasie Tweet each won the same award in Region 9.
