Calvin Men's Soccer Blows by Britons to Widen MIAA Standings Lead

ALBION, Mich. – The 13th-ranked Calvin men's soccer team rolled to a 7-0 victory at Albion Tuesday night, stretching its unbeaten streak to seven games.

The win came against an Albion team that was the only MIAA side to defeat Calvin during the 2022 season.

The Knights are now 12-2-1 overall and 5-0-0 in MIAA play. Calvin holds a five-point lead over second place Trine with two regular season games left to play. Calvin travels to Kalamazoo on Saturday night and will host Olivet next Wednesday in its regular season finale.
The Knights have now outscored their league opponents 27-2.

Calvin swarmed the Albion goal from the outset and led 4-0 at halftime. The Knights used a pair of first half goals from Chris Schau (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) and single goals from seniors Oliver Akintade (Lake Forest, Il./Lake Forest HS) and Zach Flowerday (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) to roll out to the advantage.
Akintade nabbed his second goal of the evening in the 69th minute. Junior Alex White (Lake Bluff, Il./Lake Forest Academy) scored in the 71st minute with freshman Osiel Peguero (Santo Domingo, DR/The Kiski School) scoring his first collegiate goal in the 89th minute.

Akintade had a pair of assists as did White. Also picking up assists were junior Ethan Brown (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores HS) and freshman Foster Garrett (Canton, Mich./Salem HS).

Senior Daniel Wunder (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) had three saves in posting his 35th collegiate shutout.

Calvin finished the match with a 24-8 shots at goal advantage.

COACHES COMMENT: "Great road win at Albion tonight," said Calvin head men's soccer coach Ryan Souders. "Guys came out ready and hungry from the beginning and put together a really solid performance."

NEXT UP: Calvin will travel to Kalamazoo on Saturday night for a conference match at 7 p.m.
