Calvin Women's Soccer Picks Up Win On The Road Against Trine

ANGOLA, Mich. - Tonight the Calvin women's soccer team traveled to Angola, Ind. to take on Trine for an MIAA matchup. Going into tonight's game the Knights were sitting at an 5-0 MIAA record with a 11-0-2 overall record while Trine had a 5-5-4 overall record and a 1-3 MIAA record.

As the game got underway both teams battled for momentum. As the half went on Calvin seemed to dominate but despite having earned six corners, a set piece the Knights have been deadly on this season, they had been unable to find the back of the net.

It wasn't until the 44th minute that the Knights finally broke the game open when Sophie Mueller (North Muskegon, Mich./North Muskegon) gathered the ball deep in Thunder territory. She quickly turned and laid it off to Kaitlyn Van Laare (Toronto, Ont./Toronto Christian) who sent a rocket from outside the eighteen yard box over the head of the Trine goalkeeper to give Calvin the 1-0 lead.

In the second half the Calvin defense stepped up and locked down the Thunder attackers to give the Knights the 1-0 win. Goalkeeper Kalex Dodge (Leslie, Mich./Leslie) recorded one save in the match as Calvin improved to a 12-0-2 record. They also remained perfect in MIAA play with a 6-0 record.

COACHES COMMENT: "We are happy to get a road result tonight," said head coach Emily Ottenhoff. "I thought we came with good energy and focus. We moved the ball well and created some good opportunities but ultimately need to be more disciplined to find better opportunities. We look forward to getting back to work on Monday for a strong Kalamazoo team."

UP NEXT: The Knight will be back in action on Wednesday when they welcome Kalamazoo to campus for a 7PM kickoff.
