GRAND RAPIDS - The 12th-ranked Calvin men's swimming and diving team dropped its final meet before next month's MIAA Championships by the final score of 191.5-108.5 against third-ranked University of Chicago.
Here are some of the top Calvin performances from the dual meet against the Maroons:
*Calvin won both relay events on the day, starting with the 200 Medley. The Calvin team of
Noah Holstege (Charlottesville, Va./The Covenant School),
Caleb Gemmen (Mentor, Ohio/Homeschool),
Forrest Peterson (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) and
Jacob Heeres (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) won in a time of 1:31.03.
*The Knights also closed the day with a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle. The team of Holstege, Heeres, Peterson and
Corey Campbell (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) finished in a time of 1:22.15.
*
Timothy Hays (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect) was the first individual first-place finish for Calvin as he won the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:53.68. Hays also took home second place finishes in the 200 individual medley (1:53.69) and the 200 backstroke (1:52.55).
Charles Platt (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) took fourth in the 200 backstroke in a time of 1:53.98.
*Holstege won the 50 freestyle in a time of 20.6. Peterson (21.03) tied for second in that event, while
Vladimir Molin (Rolling Meadows, Ill./Rolling Meadows/Millikin) (21.29) took fourth. Holstege also added a third place finish in the 100 backstroke (51.45) on the day.
*Heeres followed that by winning the 100 freestyle in a time of 45.49.
Bryce Miner (Cupertino, Calif./Homestead) (47.01) and Campbell (47.15) took third and fourth in that event. Heeres also added a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:43.86).
*Peterson finished first in the 100 butterfly in a time of 49.39 to go with his performances in the two relay wins.
*Calvin had two top-four finishes in the 1000 freestyle as
Caleb Terschak (Town and Country, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) took third and
Henry Phippen (Macomb, Ill./Phippen Academy) finished fourth.
Anthony Crudele (Aurora, Ill./Homeschool) also took home a fourth-place finish in the 200 breaststroke.
*In the diving events,
Jason Perez (Plainwell, Mich./Plainwell) finished third in the three-meter event with a total of 264.75 points.
Wilson Goodpaster (Hamilton, Ohio/Hamilton) and
Jay Cen (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) took third and fourth, respectively, off the one-meter board.
