GRAND RAPIDS - The Calvin University men's swim and dive team defeated rival Hope College 174-69 in its dual meet on Friday night at Venema Aquatic Center.
The Knights were the higher-ranked team coming into the event at number-12 in the most recent CSCAA poll, while the Flying Dutchmen ranked 20th in the poll.
Here are some of the top finishes for Calvin at the event:
*Calvin took first in both the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay. In the medley, the team of
Noah Holstege (Charlottesville, Va./The Covenant School),
Caleb Gemmen (Mentor, Ohio/Homeschool),
Forrest Peterson (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) and
Vladimir Molin (Rolling Meadows, Ill./Rolling Meadows/Millikin) finished in a time of 1:31.44. The freestyle relay team of
Jacob Heeres (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian), Molin,
Corey Campbell (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) and
Bryce Miner (Cupertino, Calif./Homestead) won that event in a time of 3:05.81.
*Seven Calvin swimmers finished first in their events on the night, with Heeres starting the team off by winning the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:42.93. Heeres also finished first in the 100 freestyle in a time of 46.11 later in the meet.
*Holstege took first in the 50 freestyle (20.32) and 100 backstroke (51.28).
Timothy Hays (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect) followed in second place in the 100 backstroke (51.67), while Peterson (20.84) and
David Bajwa (Potomoc, Md./The Heights School) (22.04) took second and fourth, respectively, in the 50 freestyle.
*Calvin took home the top three places in the 100 butterfly and 100 freestyle. Peterson finished first in the 100 butterfly (50.27) and was followed by Campbell in second (50.46) and
Julien Camy (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) in third (50.94). Molin (47.22) and Miner (47.28) followed Heeres in the 100 freestyle.
*Hays finished first in the 200 individual medley in a time of 1:55.09, while Gemmen finished first in the 100 breaststroke (58.25).

Joshua Seidelman (Northville, Mich./Northville) finished second in both the 1000 freestyle (10:06.31) and 500 freestyle (4:51.07). Sam Hoover (Beverly Hills, Mich./Seaholm) took third in the 1000 freestyle (10:17.3), while
Hudson DeBoer (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) and
Charles Platt (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove) took second and fourth, respectively, in the 200 freestyle.
*Calvin also recorded a pair of first-place finishes in the diving events.
Jason Perez (Plainwell, Mich./Plainwell) finished first in the three-meter event (276.0 points) and third in the one-meter (234.74).
Wilson Goodpaster (Hamilton, Ohio/Hamilton) took first in the one-meter (264.82) and second in the three-meter (262.88).
COACH'S COMMENT: "It's always great to have a rival," Calvin swimming and diving coach
Dan Gelderloos said. "It brings out the best in both teams, which is great to have at the end of the year. I'm proud of the way we competed, and looking forward to a couple weekends off before championship season."
