Calvin Men's Swim and Dive Battles Division II Wayne State

RESULTS

DETROIT - The Calvin men's swimming and diving team battled against nationally ranked Division II Wayne State in a 131-108 defeat at Matthaei Natatorium on Friday night.

The Knights entered the meet ranked 13th in the lated NCAA Division III poll, while Wayne State was ranked 17th in NCAA Division II.

Here are some of the top performances for the Calvin men:

*The Calvin team of Noah Holstege (Charlottesville, Va./The Covenant School), Joshua Seidelman (Northville, Mich./Northville), Corey Campbell (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapid Christian) and Vladimir Molin (Rolling Meadows, Ill./Rolling Meadows) took first place in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:24.07.

*In the 200 medley relay, the Calvin team of Holstege, Caleb Gemmen (Mentor, Ohio/Home School), Forrest Peterson (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) and Molin finished second in a time of 1:32.07.

*The Calvin divers were among the top point-scorers on the night, as Wilson Goodpaster (Hamilton, Mich./Hamilton) took first in the three-meter event (278.93 points) and second in the one-meter (260.55). Jason Perez (Plainwell, Mich./Plainwell) finished first in the one-meter (291.23) and third in the three-meter (260.7).

*Holstege took home first place in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.75, while Peterson finished fourth in the 50 freestyle (21.37) and second in the 100 freestyle (47.76).

*Charles Platt (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) finished first in the 100 backstroke (51.2).

*Timothy Hays (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect) took second in the 200 IM (1:57.7).

*Gemmen finished third in the 100 breaststroke (59.08), while Bryce Miner (Cupertino, Calif./Homestead) finished third in the 100 freestyle (48.37). Miner also added a fourth-place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:48.59).

COACH'S COMMENT: "We keep scheduling quality opponents so that we can keep testing our racing skills against the best," Calvin swimming and diving head coach Dan Gelderloos said. "We talk about how there is no fear in the process and we are getting very comfortable with our process."

NEXT UP: Calvin swimming and diving will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, January 21) when it competes in a meet against Alma and Albion at Venema Aquatic Center at 1:00 PM.
