GRANVILLE, Oh- The 19th nationally ranked Calvin women's swim and dive team traveled to Grandville, Ohio today where they were defeated by both Carnegie Mellon and Denison in their double-dual meet. Despite several top finishes the Knights fell 106-194 to 11th ranked Carnegie Mellon and 3rd ranked Dension. Highlights of the meet for Calvin included:

*Calvin finished second in both the 200 medley relay (1:47.70) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:38.01). The medley team consisted of junior Isabella Gable (Greenville, Ohio/ Arcanum-Butler, Tenn./ Lindenwood), sophomore Haley Thier (Scranton, Pa./ Scranton Prep/ Denison), junior Maggie Farrell (Portage, Mich./ Portage Central/ Denison), and sophomore Sydney Sonday (Portage, Mich./ Portage Central/ KVCC) while the freestyle team was made up of Farrell, Gable, Sonday, and freshman Meghan Bengelink (Holland, Mich./ Holland Christian).

*Thier finished second in both the 100 breaststroke (1:07.60) and the 200 breaststroke (1:26.25).

*Farrell finished first in the 50 freestyle (24.53) and third in the 100 butterfly (57.92).

COACHES COMMENTS: "Our women's team fought hard all weekend and gave us some great performance," said Calvin head coach Dan Gelderloos. "Getting quality experience on the road against solid teams is always a good thing this time of year. We got a glimpse of some special things to come which is very exciting."

UP NEXT: The Knights will travel to Wayne State on Friday, January 20th where action will begin at 5 p.m.
