ASHLAND, Oh. – The nationally-ranked Calvin women's swimming and diving rolled to a 166-73 dual meet victory at Division II Ashland University Friday night, improving to 5-1 on the dual meet season.
Highlights of the dual meet victory included:
*Calvin taking first in both the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays. The 200 medley relay team of freshman
Madilyn McNearney (Riverside, Mo./Park Hill South HS), junior Sophia Kormacher (Midland, Mich./Lakeshore HS), sophomore Abigal Merz (Flint, Mich./Powers Catholic HS) and senior
Kara Bolger (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central HS) took first place in a time of 1:25.92. Its 200 freestyle relay team of junior
Maggie Farrell (Portage, Mich./Portage Central HS), sophomore
Haley Thier (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep), freshman
Kristin Winkle (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) and junior
Isabella Gable (Greenville, Oh./Arcanum-Butler HS) took first place in a time of 1:41.88.
*Calvin taking the top three spots in the 200 freestyle with Farrell winning the race (2:01.33), freshman
Meghan Bengelink (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) taking second (2:04.65) and Brown placing third (2:05.65).

Claire Sytsma (Ada, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) taking second (26.01) and Winkle taking third (26.02).

*Winkle winning the 500 free (5:36.82) and McNearney taking second (5:37.92).
*The Knights sweeping the top three spots in the 200 backstroke with Sytsma winning in 2:11.31, junior
Sadie Norman (Fulton, Il./Fulton HS) taking second (2:16.21) and Thier placing third (2:20.64).
*Gable winning the 100 free (54.72), Sonday taking second (55.56) and Bengelink placing third (56.45).
*Farrell winning the 200 butterfly (2:16.42), junior
Natalie Fisher (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville HS) placing second (2:25.87) and freshman
Elizabeth Dylewski (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Bloomfield HS) placing third (2:27.84).
COACHES COMMENT: "We had pretty good results for our first meet back in six weeks, " said Calvin head coach
Dan Gelderloos. "We had to fight through some long travel back from our Christmas break trip and also getting back into the swing of first semester classes but our team is making the adjustment. We've got another big day of competition tomorrow."
NEXT UP: Calvin will compete in a loaded triangular on Saturday at Denison University that will feature 19
th-ranked Calvin, 11
th-ranked Carnegie Mellon and third-ranked (and host) Denison). Competition is set to begin at 1 p.m. (EST).
