Calvin Women's Soccer Shuts Out Scarlet Hawks

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin women's soccer team picked up a 1-0 victory over visiting Illinois Tech University on Saturday afternoon at Zuidema Field.

Junior Elizabeth Williams (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) provided the winning goal, whipping in a shot from 25 yards with just over seven minutes left in the first half. The strike by Williams curled just inside the upper right hand post and gave the Knights the edge they would the rest of the way.

Calvin held possession of the ball for most of the second half and held off a late Illinois Tech for an equalizer.

The Knights held a 10-5 shots at goal advantage. Sophomore Kalex Dodge (Jackson, Mich./Leslie HS) picked up her second straight shutout in goal for Calvin, collecting two saves.

The first half goal by Williams was her third of the young season.

COACHES COMMENT: "Hard-fought match from our group today," said Calvin women's soccer head coach Emily Ottenhoff. "We are happy to get the (winning) result. A fantastic strike from Liz (Williams) to get us on the scoreboard. We are looking forward to a day off before we get back to work for a challenging weekend ahead."

NEXT UP: Calvin will now prepare for a pair of games next weekend in Wisconsin. On Friday, Calvin will journey to Wisconsin-Oshkosh and will then travel to Carroll College the following day.
