Men's Tennis Rolls to 9-0 Win

GRAND RAPIDS - The Calvin men's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 win over Concordia University of Michigan on Friday at Gainey Athletic Complex in its final match of the fall season.

The Cardinals brought only four players, so the Knights started with a 3-0 edge thanks to forfeit wins in doubles (one) and singles (two).

In the two doubles matches that were played, the number-one team of Ryan Broek (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian)) and Tanner Warners (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Chistian) won 8-4, while the number-two team of Isaac Jeong (Novi, Mich./Novi) and Jared Berghorst (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville) won 8-1.

In singles, Corwin Kim (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson), Stuart Johnston (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc), Emmanuel Henao Estrada (Medellin, Columbia/Escuela Normal Superior "La Merced") and Adam Zentner (Clarkson, Mich./Clarkson) each won in straight sets.

Calvin improved to 1-0 on the season with the win, while the Cardinals fell to 1-1 in defeat.

COACH'S COMMENT: "Very happy with our focus and maturity in both matches today as we wrap up our fall season," Calvin men's tennis head coach John Ross said. "I'm looking forward to have a fun and exciting spring."

NEXT UP: Calvin men's tennis will play an alumni match tomorrow (Saturday, September 24) at Strikwerda Tennis Center starting at 12 PM.
