Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. - Calvin split a set of games on Friday, falling to Wartburg 3-0 and topping Rosemont to move to 4-4 on the season.
GAME ONE
Wartburg 3, Calvin 0
Wartburg scored three runs in the bottom of the second and limited Calvin to four hits to secure the shutout win.
Calvin had runners in scoring position in the first and fourth innings but could not plate home a run.
Wartburg used three hits, a walk and a fielder's choice to score three times in the bottom of the second.
Senior Hannah Biddlecome (Portage, Mich./Portage Northern HS), junior Sidney Duong (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Christian HS), senior Addi Warner (South Bend, Ind./Clay HS) and junior Kali Yant (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg HS) all had one hit apiece.
Wartburg pitcher Ashley Nelson kept Calvin at bay, striking out 10 batters.
Calvin pitcher Kirsten Krause (Fredonia, Wisc./Grafton HS) took the loss for the Knights despite a solid pitching performance. Krause struck out six batters and allowed only five hits.
GAME TWO
Calvin 9, Rosemont 1 (6 innings)
Calvin rolled to a 9-1 run-rule win over Rosemont to even its record on the day and on the season.
The Knights used a five-run outburst in the bottom of the third to help build a 6-0 lead.
Calvin tacked on single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth to complete the run-rule win.
Sophomore Emma Springer (Three Oaks, Mich./River Valley HS) had a two-run RBI single in the third while freshman Kennedi Pepin (Bourbonnais, Il./Bradley Bourbonnais) and freshman Lily Gaastra (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) both had RBI triples in the third.
Freshman Taylor Sanborn (Midland, Mich./Midland HS) closed out the day with a run-scoring single that plated Biddlecome and gave Calvin an eight-run cushion after five innings.
Springer went 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Sophomore Grace Glass (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central HS) went 2-for-3 while Pepin was 2-for-2 with two RBI's and a run scored.
Freshman Zoe Hazelhoff (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Christian HS) went the distance in the circle to pick up the win, scattering six hits in six innings of work.
