GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin women's swimming and diving team celebrated Calvin Senior Day with a 218-59 dual meet victory over Alma Saturday afternoon at the Venema Aquatic Center.
The Knights finish the 2021-22 dual meet season with an overall record of 7-5.
Prior to the meet, Calvin honored seniors Anna Weber (North Royalton, Oh./North Royalton HS), Valerie Edewaard (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS), Emilia Shokoohi (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage HS), Erica Stinton (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS), Samantha Sonday (Portage, Mich./Portage Central HS), GraceAnn Delcompare (Naples, Fla./Home School), Christine Lee (Rancho Palos Verdes, Ca./Palos Verdes Peninsula HS), Kylie Shaw (Dixon, Il./Dixon HS) and Lydia Walls (Warren, Oh./Warren G Harding HS).
Calvin's 400 medley relay team of junior Claire Sytsma (Ada, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS), Samantha Sonday, freshman Haley Thier (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) and Edewaard opened the meet by winning in a time of 4:07.78.
Shokoohi won the 200 freestyle in a time of 2:01.48 and the 200 IM in a time of 2:20.46.
Sophomore Maggie Farrell (Portage, Mich./Portage Central HS) took home wins in the 100 freestyle (54.60) and 100 butterfly (58.16).
Samantha Sonday won the 200 breaststroke in 2:35.22 while freshman Sydney Sonday (Portage, Mich./Portage Central HS) won the 50 freestyle in 24.75.
In the 1000 freestyle, freshman Megan Pankratz (Palatine, Il./William Fremd) was a winner in a time of 11:30.16.
Freshman Rebecca Streelman (Newberg, Ore./Home School) claimed the 500 freestyle win in a time of 5:35.03.
Sophomore Sadie Norman (Fulton, Il./Fulton HS) took first in the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:02.77.
Sophomore Abigal Morse (Jenison, Mich./Jenison HS) had a big day, taking first place on both the one and three-meter diving boards. Her winning scores on the one-meter (403.72) and three-meter (418.97) were both NCAA III Regional Qualifying scores.
Calvin's 400 freestyle relay team of Farrell, Sydney Sonday, junior Hannah Brown (Palmyra, Va./Home School) and Edewaard closed out the meet with a winning time of 3:37.96.
Calvin will now prepare for the MIAA Championships scheduled for February 16-19 at the Holland Aquatic Center.
