GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin men's basketball team extended its winning streak to seven with a 95-84 win on the road at Olivet Saturday afternoon.

In the early minutes of the game, it was a back-and-forth contest between the two teams. The Knights found themselves with the slight advantage of 14-12 after a corner 3-pointer by senior Luke Morrison (Bristol, IN / Northridge).

Calvin quickly rattled off a 9-0 run capped off by a 3-pointer by sophomore Marcus Bult (Wheaton, IL / Wheaton Academy) to give the Knights a 23-12 lead. Calvin continued to add to its lead as the Comets struggled to score on the Knights' defense. Junior Eli Sensenig (Grayslake, IL / Westlake Christian Academy) made a tough layup through traffic to make it 35-17 with 8:53 left in the first half.

The Knights went on another fast 9-2 run after three straight 3-pointers to make it 44-10 with 6:42 left in the first half. Calvin continued to keep the offensive pressure up the remainder of the half and took a 52-28 advantage going into halftime.

Morrsion led the Knights in scoring at halftime with 20 points including six 3-pointers followed by Bult with 11 points. They also outrebounded the Comets 23-16 and had 10 total assists.

Calvin was holding a steady lead over Olivet after a made layup by Thad Shymanski (Ada, MI / Grand Rapids Christian) to give them a 69-42 lead with 12:34 left. The Comets tried to get back into the game down the stretch and had some good runs, but the Knights had the answers for the comebacks.

The Knights went on to win 95-84 and improve to 15-6 on the season and 8-2 in the MIAA.

The Knights were led in scoring by Morrison with 30 points followed by Bult with 19 points. Egekeze finished with 16 points and seven rebounds as well for Calvin. The Knights shot 31-71 (43.7%) from the field and 15-31 (48.4%) from the three-point line. They outrebounded the Comets 40-37 on the glass and finished with 12 total assists.

COACHES COMMENT: "We defended and executed well in the first half," said Calvin head men's basketball coach Bill Sall. "Luke Morrison hit some huge shots for us, and Marcus Bult continues to boost his confidence with the way he is shooting the ball. We knew Olivet would keep coming at us in the second half. Coach (Sam) Hargraves is a coach that will always keep his team working hard. Olivet has a very talented team. This is a good road win and is what we need at this point of the year. We are playing meaningful games in February which is where we want to be. Now it's on to the next one."

UP NEXT: The Knights will host Alma on Wednesday February 9 with tipoff set for 8 p.m. at Van Noord Arena.
