GRAND RAPIDS- The Calvin women's basketball team lost a tough one on the road today against Trine University at the MTI Center in Angola, Ind.

As of today Calvin (5-2, 0-2) is ranked 15th in the nation. After a hard fought battle with top ranked Hope College earlier this week the Knights were eager to see how they would match up with 20th-ranked Trine. 

Trine came out swinging and started the game by going on a 6-0 run and swarmed the Knights on defense. Calvin struggled to get shots to fall as they posted a 23.1 shooting percent after the first ten minutes. The Knights looked to respond in the second quarter and were able close the gap to pull within 6 points. They went into the half trailing 28-21 after showing improvement by shooting 45.5 percent in the second quarter. Leah Harris (Frisco, Texas/Lone Star) led the Knights in scoring with 7 points while Gabby Timmer (Caledonia, Mich/South Christian) was close behind with 6 points. 

During the second half Trine locked down on defense and never let the Knights get close. Calvin ended the game shooting 32 percent from the field and their 16 turnovers proved to be costly as the Thunder pulled away and defeated the Knights 60-45.

Timmer finished the game with an impressive 20 points while Harris finished with 13 points. 

COACHES COMMENTS: "Credit all goes to Trine, they were disciplined, physical and made a huge shot when we cut into the lead in the fourth quarter," said head coach Mark Christner. "We have to recoup and catch our breath. The goal in the MIAA is to have a chance to win it later in February. The next opportunity is St. Mary's so we need to get ready for that."

UP NEXT: The Knight will take on St. Mary's this Thursday at Van Noord Arena with tip time set for 7 p.m.
