GRAND RAPIDS - The Calvin volleyball team rolled to another 3-0 win over conference foe Alma College by the scores of 25-11, 25-20 and 25-11 on Wednesday.
The win served several purposes for the Knights, who were sharp from the beginning to the end of the match while also getting a number of players into the match for important game experience.
The Knights were in control from the start, running away from the Scots while hitting .215 on the attack compared to -.019 for the Scots.
Heidi Westra (Clarendon Hills, Ill./Timothy Christian) led the Knights with 11 kills, and Alma had no answer for
Tori Roskamp (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) in the middle as she hit .727 with eight kills to go with two blocks.
First-year setter
Alyssa DeVries (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) led all players with 36 assists.
Aubrey Wrubel (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) and
Maria Bos (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) finished with 15 and 12 digs, respectively.
The match marked the halfway point of the MIAA schedule with the Knights improving to 4-0 in conference and 12-3 overall. Alma fell to 2-11 on the season and 0-4 in league play in defeat.
COACH'S COMMENT: "I was really happy with the way we came out," Calvin volleyball head coach Dr.
Amber Warners said. "Good intensity, a lot of talking, (and doing) the things we can control. Really happy with how we set the tempo and it was really nice to see other people play. We have really good players who are on the bench so (it was good) to get them some experience."
