Calvin Beats Adrian 4-0 After An Explosive Second Half

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich- An explosive second half lead the Knights to an impressive 4-0 victory over the Adrian Bulldogs this afternoon at Docking Stadium. The win moves Calvin to a 12-1-2 overall record and keeps them on top in the MIAA standings at 4-0-0 in league play.

It was a quiet first half as the score remained 0-0 through the first 45 minutes of the match. However, the deadlock wouldn't last long as the Knights began to show their dominance in the second half.

In the 65th minute the ball was knocked around in the 18-yard box before it found junior Kadin Shaban (Jenison, Mich./Unity Christian) who buried it in the back of the net. This goal seemingly opened the scoring floodgates for the Knights as two minutes later Shaban connected with senior Colin Iverson (Naperville, Il./Naperville North HS) on a diving header, giving Calvin a 2-0 lead.

In the 74th minute junior Oliver Akintade (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest HS) broke away from his defender on a breakaway and snuck the ball under the arms of the charging goalkeeper to extend Calvin's lead to 3-0. The final goal of the game would come in the 76th minute when Akintade scored his second of the day and seventh of the season.

Senior Daniel Wunder (Grand Rapids./Grand Rapids HS) picked up his fourth shut out of the season in goal for the Knights.

COACHES COMMENT: "Always ecstatic to get 3 points on the road in the MIAA," said Calvin head men's soccer coach Ryan Souders. "Credit to Adrian as they had a ton of fight and made it difficult for us. Glad our guys were able to find a way and break through a few times in the second. We'll take the points and look forward to Albion on Wednesday."

UP NEXT: Calvin will host Albion on Wednesday at Zuiderma Field at 7pm.
