Calvin Men's Basketball Drops MIAA Opener at Albion

ALBION, Mich. – Calvin dropped its MIAA opener, falling at Albion 70-62 Wednesday night at Kresge Gymnasium.

The Knights (7-5 overall, 0-1 MIAA) led 33-30 at halftime but shot just 32.1 percent from the field in the second half as the Britons pulled away for the win.

Albion (5-6 overall, 0-1 MIAA) used back-to-back three-point shots from Chanse Crittendon to build a 48-41 lead seven minutes into the second half.

Calvin fought back to within a point at 50-49 but missed the front end of a one-and-one opportunity at the free throw line and were unable to take the lead. The Knights were again within a point at 52-51 but the Britons reeled off a 12-2 run over a four-and-a-half minute span to take a 64-53 lead. Albion held off Calvin down the stretch. The Knights were able to creep within six at 68-62 with 1:14 remaining but go no closer.

Senior Luke Morrison (Bristol, Ind./Northridge HS) led Calvin in scoring with 18 points while senior Emmett Warners (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) had 12 points and sophomore Uchenna Egekeze (Huntley, Il./Huntley HS) 10 points.

Devin Holmes and Ken Thomas led Albion with 14 points apiece.

Calvin was just 10 of 20 (.500) from the free throw line and shot just 39.6 percent overall. Albion shot 50 percent (30 of 60) from the floor and outrebounded Calvin 44-31.

NEXT UP: Calvin will travel to Alma on Saturday for a conference game set to begin at 3 p.m.
