GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Calvin split a pair of dual meets on Friday evening at the Venema Aquatic Center to move to 4-3 on the season. The Knights defeated Division II Davenport 134-108 and fell to Division II Hillsdale 127-104.
Calvin took first place in the 200 medley relay as the quartet of junior Claire Sytsma (Ada, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS), freshman Haley Thier (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep), senior Valerie Edewaard (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) and junior Hannah Brown (Palmyra, Va./Home School) took first place in a time of 1:49.28.
Calvin's 200 freestyle relay team of sophomore Maggie Farrell (Portage, Mich./Portage Central HS), Brown, junior Lydia Walls (Warren, Oh./Warren G. Harding HS) and freshman Sydney Sonday (Portage, Mich./Portage Central HS) took second in a time of 1:39.58.
Calvin had several second place finishes. Farrell took second in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:55.92. Sydney Sonday was second in the 50 freestyle in a time of 24.96, finishing two-hundreths of a second out of first place.
In the three-meter diving, sophomore Abigal Morse (Jenison, Mich./Jenison HS) had a career-best score of 241.64 in taking second place.
Edewaard was second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:00.91 while Sytsma was second in the 100 backstroke (1:00.40) and Thier second in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.07).
