Box Score 2 GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Calvin rolled to a pair of straight-set victories Saturday at the Calvin Labor Day Weekend Tournament.
In a meeting of nationally-ranked teams, third-ranked Calvin (5-1) downed 22nd-ranked Otterbein (1-2) 25-17, 25-16, 25-12. In a non-conference match, the Knights then rolled by Kalamazoo 25-7, 25-12, 25-14.
In the win over Otterbein, junior Heidi Westra (Clarendon Hills, Il./Timothy Christian HS) led the offensive attack with 11 kills, 11 digs, three block assists and a .370 attack percentage.
Junior Maria Bos (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) had eight kills while junior Aubrey Wrubel (Jenison, Mich./Jenison HS) tallied 20 digs and six assists. Senior Anna Schriemer (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg HS) amassed 26 assists, 10 digs and three service aces. Junior Theresa Kehn (Brighton, Mich./Charyl Stockwell Preparatory HS) had 10 digs and senior Madelyn Hall (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville HS) 7 kills and sophomore Gabriella Kellogg (Belleville, Mich./Plymouth Christian Academy) six kills.
In the victory over Kalamazoo, Westra and senior Kelsey Smith (Vienna, Va./Madison HS) had nine kills apiece. Gabriella Kellogg chalked up seven kills. Wrubel picked up 12 digs, five assists and three service aces. Kehn had three service aces, Schriemer 19 assists, junior Tori Roskamp (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) five kills and senior Grace Kellogg (Belleville, Mich./Plymouth Christian Academy) seven digs.
Westra was later named to the all-tournament team. The Knights finished the tournament with a 3-1 record, matching the 3-1 mark of Augsburg.
