Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Knights cruised to their second win of the season over the Spartans of Aurora University with a score of 4-1 at Zuidema Field on Saturday afternoon.
The game started with Calvin gaining several shots and opportunities in the first ten minutes. Junior Anna Reimink (Winona Lake, IN / Lakeland Christian Academy) had a fantastic header that just went off the top bar for the near miss. The Knights broke through the defense of the Spartans after Kaitlynn Van Laare (Toronto, Ont. / Toronto District Christian) crossed the ball to middle where Jessie Paulson (Plymouth, MI / Plymouth Christian) put it away to take the 1-0 lead.
Aurora responded a few minutes later with a goal of its own to tie it at 1-1 with about 30 minutes left in the half. Sophomore Sophie Mueller (North Muskegon, MI / North Muskegon) had a couple of breakaway opportunities, but Aurora's keeper made some great saves to hold them off.
The Knights took the lead back with about 15 minutes left in the half as sophomore Elizabeth Williams (Grand Rapids, MI / Grand Rapids Christian) shot just outside the box, and placed it just over the keeper for a 2-1 lead.
The Knights outshot the Spartans 23-2 in the first half and had 7 corner kicks with the Spartans not attempting a corner in the half.
The second half had the Knights jumping out of the gates quickly with another goal. Mueller scored on a breakaway after a great pass from Van Laare to extend the lead to 3-1. A couple of minutes later Mueller scored her second goal of the match and her fourth of the season to give Calvin a 4-1 lead.
