Box Score ALMA, Mich. – Calvin got back on the winning track with a 4-0 non-conference win at Alma Wednesday afternoon.
Ranked 10th nationally, the Knights improve to 4-1-2 on the season heading into a weekend trip to Georgia that will see the Knights face a pair of rugged Division III opponents.
Calvin led 3-0 at halftime, scoring a pair of goals in the first 12 minutes of the game. Sophomore Oliver Akintade (Lake Forest, Il./Lake Forest HS) opened the scoring in the 8th minute of play, converting a feed from junior Chris Schau (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS).
Just under four minutes later, senior Sam Twigg (Auckland, New Zealand) popped home his seventh goal of the season with senior Mason Smith (Flint, Mich./Flint Powers Catholic HS) drawing an assist on the play.
Smith assisted Calvin's third goal of the game not long after as Akintade blasted home a shot in the 19th minute.
Akintade completed the hat-trick performance with an unassisted goal in the 72nd minute.
Senior Daniel Wunder (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) went the distance in goal for Calvin, making one save in keeping the clean sheet.
Calvin outshot the host Scots 15-3.
COACHES COMMENT: "Good to get a road win," said Calvin head men's soccer coach Ryan Souders after the match. "Credit the guys for taking care of the task at hand and not looking ahead. Here's hoping for safe travels as we head down south for two tough road games."
NEXT UP: Calvin will travel to Emory University Friday night for a game in Atlanta at 7 p.m. and will then journey cross-town to face Oglethorpe University Saturday night at the same time.
