Calvin Men's Soccer Cruises Past Comets To Remain Unbeaten in League Play

Box Score

OLIVET, Mich. - Calvin men's soccer won its fourth straight game with a 5-0 win on the road at Olivet Friday afternoon.

The Knights started the scoring early as Oliver Akintade (Lake Forest, IL / Lake Forest) had a breakaway to the corner and crossed it to the middle of the goal where Jack Kilgallon (Plainfield, IL / Wheaton Academy) deflected it in to score in just the fourth minute of the game.

The offense of the Knights was attacking the Comets quickly and scored ten minutes later on a penalty kick by senior Shay Smith (Columbus, OH / Worthington Christian). The goal was the first of the season for Smith.

Calvin's defense was stout in the first half as it only allowed only two Olivet shots. The Knights (4-1-0 overall, 3-0-0 MIAA) dominated the time of possession and were in control for most of the half. They took a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

It's didn't take long for Calvin to get on the board in the second half as it scored within the first minute of the half. A goal from Luca Seazzu (Albuquerque, NM / Albuquerque) with the assist from Seamus Kilgallon (Plainfield, IL / Wheaton Academy) extended Calvin's lead to 3-0. Ten minutes later, Kilgallon scored his second of the game as he put it in the opposite lower corner from the right side. The Knights were up 4-0 and in full control of the game.

Calvin was able to add to its lead yet again with a goal from Smith off a well-placed assist from sophomore Jon Szydlowski (Twinsburg, Oh./Twinsburg HS). Olivet had no answers against Calvin's defense and was unable to get any smooth offensive going its way.

Smith and Kilgallon had two goals each on the day while Seazzu had one goal. The Knights outshot Olivet 15-3 on the evening and didn't allow the Comets to have any corner kicks in the game.

COACHES COMMENT: "It's always good to get a conference road win," said Calvin head men's soccer coach Ryan Souders. "We had some really good goals from the guys, and to keep a shutout is always great on the part of the whole group. We have a quick turnaround on Monday, so we'll do our best to heal up and be ready."

UP NEXT: The Knights will travel to Alma on Monday April 5 with a 4 p.m. kickoff.
