Box Score ADRIAN, Mich. - The Calvin men's lacrosse team picked up its second win of the season, defeating Adrian College 22-13 Saturday afternoon.
The Knights started out strong in the first quarter as they outscored the Bulldogs 5-1. Junior Nick Dueweke (Clarkston, MI / Notre Dame Prep) had two of the five goals for Calvin in the first quarter.
The Bulldogs battled back into the game as they went on to outscore the Knights 11-2 in the second quarter. Adrian closed the quarter on a 5-0 run to take a 12-7 lead heading into halftime. Dueweke had three goals and one assist while teammate Chase Sparking (Novi, MI / Novi) finished the first half with two goals.
Calvin started the third quarter on a hot streak as it scored nine goals to Adrian's one to take a 16-13 lead heading into the fourth. Dueweke added four more goals to his day while Drew Stoneburner (Wheaton, IL / Wheaton North) and Ethan Curtis (Grand Rapids, MI / Forest Hills Northern) each scored a pair in the quarter.
Using their momentum from the third quarter, the Knights shut down the Bulldogs in the fourth.
Calvin outscored the Bulldogs 6-0 and took home the 22-13 victory.
Dueweke finished with 10 goals, one assist and five ground balls. His 10 goals tie the all-time record for goals in a single game for a Knight which was set by Chris Ray back in 2014.
Stoneburner finished with five goals and one assist. Nathan Jindra (South Bend, IN / John Adams) had two goals and four assists while teammate Chase Sparling finished with two goals, four assists and 13 ground balls. Calvin won the faceoff battle 21-18 and outshot Adrian 51-39. The Knights also had more ground balls with 57 for Calvin and 39 for Adrian.
COACHES COMMENTS: "Today was a tale of two halves," said Calvin head men's lacrosse coach Dave Hoger. "The guys refocused themselves at halftime and came out with a whole different level of intensity. I was proud of the way they responded in all phases of the game and that made all the difference."
