HOLLAND, Mich. - The Calvin women's swimming and diving team dropped a dual meet with rival Hope, falling 157.5-141.5 Saturday afternoon at the Holland Aquatic Center.
Hope took first place in nine events and used depth in key events to hold off a determined band of Knights.
Calvin took first place in seven events with senior Hannabeth Magnussen (Oakdale, Ca./Ripon Christian HS) winning the one-meter (245.90 points) and three-meter (261.55 points) diving competitions.
Senior Hannah Chao (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington HS) was another double-winner, taking first place in the 200 backstroke (2:07.69) and 100 backstroke (57.86).
Freshman Lynda Steen (Schaumburg, Il./Schaumburg HS) had a big meet, winning the 1,000 freestyle with a personal-best time of 10:50.10. She was also a part of a 1-2 Calvin finish in the 500 freestyle with freshman Maggie Farrell (Portage, Mich./Portage Central HS) taking first (5:14.42) and Steen second (5:15.14).
Calvin's 400 freestyle relay team of Chao, Farrell, junior Valerie Edewaard (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) and junior Anna Weber (North Royalton, Oh./North Royalton HS) took first place in a time of 3:34.99.
Calvin will now prepare to host Albion and Olivet next Saturday in dual meet competition at the Venema Aquatic Center.
