OLIVET, Mich. - Calvin Men's Basketball finished off the regular season with a win over Olivet with a score of 73-58.

Calvin will head into MIAA Tournament play next week with an overall record of 7-3.

The Knights came out strong right away as they went on a 9-2 run capped off with a layup by senior Thad Shymanski (Ada, MI / Grand Rapids Christian). The Comets responded with their own 8-3 run to cut the deficit and only trailed by two with a score of 12-10. Calvin wasn't letting up and ran off another 15-2 run which was capped off with free throws by Emmett Warners (Grand Rapids, MI / Grand Rapids Christian). This gave Calvin a 27-12 lead with 8:18 left in the half.

Olivet came right back at Calvin and outplayed the Comets the rest of the half. They went on a 15-7 run to end the half and made it a single-digit lead for Calvin with a score of 34-27. The Knights were led in scoring at halftime by Shymanksi with 13 points and Warners with 7 points. Calvin shot 14 of 35 (40%) from the field and 2 of 12 (16.7%) from the three-point line. They also outrebound the Comets 22-21 in the half.

The Comets were hot in the early minutes of the second half as they went on a 16-2 run. Olivet had a 43-38 lead with 12:58 left in the game. Calvin went on a 6-0 spurt after a pair of three-pointers by Sam LaDuke (Ludington, MI / Ludington) which gave them a 44-43 lead. It became a back-and-forth contest until the game was tied 54-54 after a made layup by Shymanski with 7:30 left in the game.

The Knights (3-0 MIAA) caught fire the rest of the game as they rattled of a 19-4 run in the last seven minutes of the game to close out the win.

Calvin was led in scoring by Thad Shymanski with 23 points while teammate Emmett Warners finished with 18 points and 8 rebounds. The Knights shot 27 of 67 (40.3%) from the field and 6 of 23 (26.1%) from the three-point line. They also outrebounded the Comets 43-42 on the afternoon.
