Box Score HOLLAND, Mich. – The Calvin women's volleyball team advanced to the MIAA Tournament finals with a 25-17, 25-13, 25-11 victory over Albion Friday afternoon in an MIAA Tournament semifinal match at Hope's DeVos Fieldhouse.
Ranked sixth nationally, Calvin (26-3) will face fifth-ranked Hope (23-3) which defeated Trine in three sets in Friday's second semifinal match Friday evening.
The Calvin-Hope MIAA Tournament Final will take place Saturday night at 7 p.m. at DeVos Fieldhouse.
In its victory over Albion on Friday Calvin trailed 4-0 in set one but ripped off nine unanswered points, en route to rolling to a comfortable set one win.
The Knights continued the momentum, hitting .275 in set two and .406 in set three to complete the victory.
Calvin featured a balanced attack in the three-set win led by junior Heidi Westra (Clarendon Hills, Il./Timothy Christian HS) with 10 kills to go with five digs and three block assists. Freshman Vanessa Martinez (Hudsonville, Mich./Wyoming HS) had nine kills and a .529 attack percentage along with one solo block and three block assists.
Junior Maria Bos (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) tallied nine kills and a .400 hitting percentage to go with two service aces, three digs and two block assists.
Senior Madelyn Hall (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville HS) had a strong match with seven kills and a .545 hitting percentage. Senior setter Anna Schriemer (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg HS) had 37 assists and nine digs. Junior Aubrey Wrubel (Jenison, Mich./Jenison HS) had 17 digs, three assists and one service ace.
Senior Grace Kellogg (Belleville, Mich./Plymouth Christian Academy) had four service aces and four digs. Junior Theresa Kehn (Brighton, Mich./Charyl Stockwell Preparatory School) had 10 digs.
As a team, Calvin had 52 digs and 13 blocks.
COACHES COMMENT: "I thought we came out with a lot of focus and spirit tonight," said Calvin head women's volleyball coach Amber Warners. "We played well as a group. I thought our serving and passing were exceptional today."
