GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Calvin picked up an important three points in the MIAA standings with a 1-0 victory over a determined Olivet squad on Wednesday afternoon at Zuidema Field.

Junior Chris Schau (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) scored the only goal of the game, converting on a rush through the right of the box in the 21st minute of the match. Schau beat a defender with a dribble into the box and then slid a shot past the Oliver goalkeeper to give the Knights a 1-0 lead.

Calvin threatened on several other occasions but could not find the back of the net again against a tough-minded Olivet unit.

Ranked 19th nationally, Calvin (11-2-2 overall) moves to 3-0-0 in the MIAA standings and is tied with Kalamazoo for the league lead.

Calvin finished the match with a 30-3 shots at goal advantage.

Senior Daniel Wunder (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) had one save which came in just the third minute of play with Wunder making a kick save on an Olivet shot to the near post to keep the match scoreless.

The shutout was the fourth consecutive for Wunder who lowered his season goals-against-average to 0.48 in the process.

Olivet slipped to 3-8-0 overall and to 1-2-0 in the MIAA with the loss.

COACHES COMMENT: "Really frustrated with our performance tonight," said Calvin head men's soccer coach Ryan Souders. "Credit to Olivet and Coach Carter for making it difficult but I felt we were flat from the beginning. Every game in this slate matters and we need to give a better account or ourselves period. Thankfully, we were able to find the three points and have the chance to right some wrongs this weekend."

NEXT UP: Calvin will host Alma on Saturday night at 7 p.m. with the match serving as Senior Knight for Calvin's Senior class.
