GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Calvin women's swimming and diving team rolled to a 180-74 dual meet victory over Alma College Saturday afternoon at the Venema Aquatic Center. The Knights are now 3-1 on the season in dual meet competition.
Calvin rolled to first place finishes in 12 events.
Calvin's 400 medley relay team of senior Hannah Chao (Farmingon Hills, Mich./North Farmington HS), junior Samantha Sonday (Portage, Mich./Portage Central HS), junior Valerie Edewaard (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) and freshman Maggie Farrell (Portage, Mich./Portage Central HS) led off the meet with a win in a time of 3:58.56.
Senior Brooke Elzinga (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) then picked up a win in the 1000 freestyle with a season-best time of 11:48.80.
Sonday was a double-winner, claiming victories in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.75) and 200 breaststroke (2:30.32).
Farrell was another double-winner, claiming victories in the 200 freestyle (1:57.33) and 500 freestyle (5:14.44).
Senior Jenna Oezer (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) was yet another double-winner, claiming wins in the 50 freestyle (24.89) and 100 butterfly (59.27).
Other individual winners included sophomore Claire Sytsma (Ada, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) in the 100 backstroke (1:01.24), junior Grace Anne Delcompare (Naples, Fla./Home Schooled) in the 200 butterfly (2:14.01), sophomore Hannah Brown (Palmyra, Va./Home School) in the 100 freestyle (56.12) and Chao in the 200 backstroke (2:07.67).
Calvin will now prepare to travel to rival Hope next Saturday for a 1 p.m. dual meet at the Holland Aquatic Center.
