COACHES COMMENT: "We talked a lot about just being ourselves and not worrying about or getting caught up in what other people are doing," said Calvin women's basketball coach Mark Christner. "We've had a week where we've played Trine and Hope - both programs that have had a lot of success over the last few years. We didn't want to get caught up in that. We wanted to focus on ourself first. For us, we have a lot of improvement that we need to make in order to get where we want to be. I thought today we took a step in the right direction. We made some shots which we haven't been doing so that was good to see. I was really proud of the way our team stayed with the game plan and believed. I thought you could see probably why Hope has been so good. They came up with a lot of the 50-50 balls when the game was still hanging in the balance and they really hurt us on the offensive boards down the stretch. I think we got a little tired and credit Hope and their relentless ball pressure for some of that. I was proud of our effort today. I think we will look at the game film and get better from this.
NEXT UP: Calvin will now break until February 6, when it travels to Olivet for a 3 p.m. contest.
