ALMA, Mich. - Calvin moved to 3-1 on the season with a 93-72 non-conference victory at Alma Saturday afternoon.

The Knights used an 18-5 run during the latter portion of the first half, en route to rolling up a 50-31 halftime lead.

Calvin continued held a comfortable lead throughout the second half in picking up its second victory of the week over the Scots (0-3).

Four members of Calvin's starting five hit double-digits in scoring led by senior Thad Shymanski (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) who tossed in a game-high 25 points on 10-of-18 shooting including 5-of-6 from three-point range. Junior forward Jordan Katje (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Christian HS) received his first start at the varsity level and responded with his second straight double-double performance, notching 17 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore center Brandon Paul (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich./Sault Ste. Marie High School) just missed a double-double with 16 points and nine boards. Freshman Luke Scheffers (St Charles, Il./St. Charles North HS) received his first collegiate start and collected 13 points, five assists and five rebounds.

Calvin was 12-of-20 from three-point range and 17-of-26 at the free throw line.

COACHES COMMENT: "I thought Jordan Katje had a great game - probably the best he has had in a Calvin uniform," said Calvin head men's basketball coach Bill Sall. "It was great to see him so active. We also had a nice bounceback game by Brandon Paul. He started the game well and gave us good production. Thad Shymanski did Thad Shymanski things, putting the ball in the basket. That is what we expect of him.
From a team standpoint, I thought we broke the game open from the nine-minute mark to the two-minute mark of the first half. We got the lead, extended it, and did a great job of wearing them down.
In the second half, we did what we needed to do on the road and held serve."

NEXT UP: Calvin will host Trine University in a non-conference game next Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Van Noord Arena.
