Calvin Struggles Against Kalamazoo

Calvin's road struggles continued as the Knights closed out their MIAA regular
season campaign with a 29-31, 33-31, 31-29, 30-26 loss at Kalamazoo Tuesday
evening. The loss dropped Calvin out of a three-way tie for first place with
Alma and Hope and gives the Scots and Flying Dutch the inside track on first
place in the regular season standings along with seeding and homecourt advantage
for next week's MIAA Tournament.

Calvin dropped to 16-10 overall and to 10-4 in the MIAA with the defeat. All
four of Calvin's conference defeats this year have come on the road. The
Knights are 9-10 overall on the road and 7-0 at home.

After claiming a hard-fought game one win, Calvin led 29-26 in game two but
could not hold on, as the Hornets regained momentum for the rest of the match.

Junior Cassie Christopher (Fruitport) came up with 16 digs, 12 kills and two
service aces in defeat while sophomore Tricia Balkema (Highland, IN) had 18 digs
and 12 kills. Junior Melissa Pell (Fremont) also tallied 13 kills and nine
blocks. Senior setter Sara Ahrenholz (Prinsburg, MN) added 42 assists and 16
digs.

Calvin returns to action on Friday when it hosts its own Midwest Invitational.
