Calvin finished off a tough weekend at the UW-Whitewater tournament with a pair
of losses Saturday afternoon, dropping a four game decision to UW-Whitewater
30-27, 26-30, 30-17, 30-22 and a five game heartbreaker to Simpson 27-30,
30-32, 30-22, 31-29, 15-8.
In the loss to nationally ranked Whitewater Calvin received a courageous effort
from junior middle hitter Melissa Pell, who rattled of 14 kills and five blocks.
Cassie Christopher, a junior outside hitter, added 12 kills and 22 digs. Senior
setter Sara Ahrenholz dished out 48 assists.
In a barnburner against Simpson, the Knights were led by Christopher and
freshman Kristin DeGroot who each tallied 14 kills. Pell also pitched in with 13
kills and four blocks. Sophomore Trisha Balkema chipped in with 21 digs and four
blocks.
Calvin will return to conference play on Tuesday, October 2, hosting Olivet at
6:30 PM.
