Calvin improved its record to 8-2 overall with a win over MIAA foe St. Mary's
College Monday night by scores of 30-21, 30-14, 30-17. The Knights also
improved their league-leading record to 3-0, a half game ahead of second place
Hope College.
Calvin used its big front line to pound away at the Belles, with Melissa Pell,
Cassie Christopher, Kara Kuipers, and Kathy Brenneman all having big offensive
games. Pell, a junior middle hitter, collected 13 kills and five solo blocks
while fellow junior Christopher added 10 kills and 10 digs. Eight kills were
tacked on by Brenneman and Kuipers, both freshmen
Senior setter Sara Ahrenholz dished out 39 assists and had 17 digs. Junior
defensive specialist Laura Tucker pitched in with 3 service aces, and sophomore
Trisha Balkema added 2 aces.
Calvin will return to action Wednesday night as they play host to the Alma
Scots. Game time is 6:30 p.m.
