Calvin Defeats Olivet College

Calvin's women's volleyball team increased their record to 5-0 (1-0 MIAA) with a three games to zero victory over the Comets of Olivet College (0-5, 0-1 in MIAA). Calvin captured the first game by a score of 15-4 and the second game by a score of 15-3.  Looking tough, the third game would not prove to be so easy for the Knights though. Olivet held their own for much of the first part of the game, until Calvin was finally able to overcome them with a 15-7 score.

Senior Rhonda Volkers (Holland Christian) led the attack for the Knights with 13 monster  kills. She also added an ace, two blocks, and two digs. Senior Ann Wiersma (Escondido Calvin Christian) chipped in with seven kills, as did Senior Tricia Balkema (Central Valley Christian). Junior Sara Ahrenholz (Central Minnesota Christian) also had a superb game as she came up with 34 assists and six digs. Olivet was led by Senior Jeena Bowers, who rattled off five kills and stretched for 12 digs.

Calvin's next match will be part of a tri-match homestand this Saturday as they host both Cornerstone University and arch-rival Hope College. Calvin will face the Flying Dutchmen of Hope at 11:00 AM. The Cornerstone match will follow at 3:00 PM.
