Box Score

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Calvin opened its 2019 MIAA campaign with a 2-0 loss at Kalamazoo.

Kalamazoo (2-5-3 overall, 1-0-1 MIAA) scored a goal in each half and outshot the Knights by a 16-4 margin.

The Hornets scored in the 14th minute and added a second goal in the 56th minute of play.

Junior Amy Kliewer (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern HS) had three saves for the Knights. The Knights also had one team save, clearing a Kalamazoo shot off the back line.

Kalamazoo goalkeeper Hannah Wolfe had three saves.

Both sides were charged with seven fouls apiece.

COACHES COMMENT: "Tough result for us today," said Calvin women's soccer head coach Emily Ottenhoff. "Kalamazoo is a good team who came out pressuring us from the start and deserved the win today. I thought we found a little more of oursevles in the second half but unfortunately that's just not good enough against a team like Kalamazoo. We need to regroup and try to get better before a tough match on Wednesday against Adrian."

NEXT UP: Calvin will travel to defending MIAA Tournament champion Adrian on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. match.
